On latest single ‘Melvin Said This’, C Turtle are somehow both the devil and angel on your shoulders. On the one hand there’s sweetness, we have a melodic and upbeat song in a major key with sparkly synths and group vocals. On the other hand there’s dirt, we have fuzzed out guitars and smashed up production at breakneck pace. I suppose this epitomises C Turtle’s whole thing pretty well, they can’t exactly be pigeonholed. Formed around songwriting partners Cole Flynn Quirke and Mimi McVeigh there is an essential duality to the band’s work. "Melvin is the outcome of us trying to blend our twee indie rock influences like The Clean and the Vaselines with more dissonant rock and roll like Brainiac,” explains Quirke, “it's probably the rockiest and fastest song on the album and we all love playing it live the most out of any tracks on the record." ‘Melvin Said This’ is the third single ahead of upcoming album Expensive Thrills out March 8th on Blitzcat Records. -Adam Brown
